Fees explained
MEXC is one of the few large venues where the trading fee is not the thing to compare. As of September 2026, all spot trading pairs carry 0% maker and 0% taker fees, with all VIP tier restrictions and asset-holding requirements removed, and MEXC states this is the default spot fee structure with no end date rather than a promotion (source: MEXC 0-fee spot trading FAQ, dated 23 December 2025). Institutional users, market makers, project teams and API users are not covered.
One caveat is worth knowing before you rely on that number, because the policy page and the public API do not say the same thing (source: MEXC public API). The API figure is the underlying schedule, not necessarily the rate charged to a retail spot account under the zero-fee policy, so confirm the figure shown on the trading page for your pair before assuming free.
| Where it is published | Rate | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| MEXC 0-fee spot trading FAQ | 0% maker and 0% taker | All spot pairs, excluding institutional users, market makers, project teams and API users |
| MEXC public exchange-information endpoint | 0.05% default taker commission | 1,706 of 2,082 trading symbols |
| MEXC public exchange-information endpoint | 0% | 271 trading symbols |
That changes where the cost of a purchase lives. With the trade itself free, everything you pay is in getting fiat onto the platform and getting crypto or cash back off it, plus the spread on whatever route you use to fund. Those figures are published separately from the trading schedule and are the numbers worth checking.
A cost estimate for a $500 purchase on MEXC and Gate appears here once the published fee schedules are verified.
History and ownership
MEXC publishes nothing about its corporate structure that can be read from outside its app. Its about page and support centre are not reachable without the site's own client, it files no audited accounts, and RampAtlas could not confirm the exchange's ownership or founding date from a primary source as of September 2026.
What is verifiable is the technical surface. The market list, the symbol status of every pair and the underlying commission schedule are all queryable through a public API without an account (source: MEXC public API). For a venue that discloses this little about itself, that endpoint is the most reliable thing you can check, and it is worth checking rather than taking a headline claim on trust. The corporate layer should be treated as unknown.
Products and markets
The scale of the list is the draw. As of September 2026, MEXC's public exchange-information endpoint reports 2,082 spot markets trading across 1,673 base assets (source: MEXC public API). Quote currencies include Tether, USDC, USD1, two other dollar stablecoin options, Bitcoin, Ethereum, euros and Brazilian reais.
Two fiat quote currencies against 1,673 assets tells you what this venue is. It is a deep altcoin market priced in stablecoins, not a fiat on-ramp. For most buyers the route in runs through a stablecoin acquired somewhere else, and the cost of that step belongs in any comparison against a venue that quotes your own currency directly. See Buy Bitcoin for how the total changes.
Security record and custody
MEXC's custody disclosure could not be verified. RampAtlas was unable to fetch a proof-of-reserves report, a security page, an audit attestation or an insurance statement from MEXC's own site as of September 2026, and so records none. It also found no enforcement action or security incident involving MEXC that it could confirm from a primary regulator or court source, and states none. Both are limits on what could be checked, not findings of good standing.
Set that against what competitors publish. Bitget, KuCoin, OKX and Toobit all put a monthly or dated proof of reserves with a verifiable Merkle root in front of anyone who asks, so an account holder can confirm their own balance was counted. Where a venue offers no such proof, a balance held there rests on the platform's word. The rational response to free trading is to ask what the venue earns instead, and to keep balances no larger than the trade requires.
Deposits and withdrawals
This is where the entire cost of using MEXC sits, and it is the part the exchange documents least publicly. Deposit rails, card processing and withdrawal charges are set per region and published inside the platform rather than on the fee schedule, so a purchase that is free to execute is not free to make.
Work the funding leg first and treat the trading rate as a rounding error. Compare the all-in cost of moving money in and crypto out against a venue charging 0.1% on a local fiat pair, because on a small purchase the funding difference will usually exceed the trading difference several times over. Country-level availability is on pages such as Brazil, and the asset-level view is at Buy Ethereum.
Support and usability
MEXC is fast to start on and hard to verify. Listing is quick, the asset list is enormous, and the headline price is the simplest in the market. The flip side is that almost nothing about the venue can be confirmed from outside it: no reserve proof, no named owner, no reachable support documentation.
Practical advice follows from that. Check the fee actually shown on the trading page rather than the policy page. Expect kyc and expect regional product differences. Confirm that both deposits and withdrawals are open for your asset and chain before you buy, since a delisting or a paused chain leaves a position stuck regardless of what the trade cost.

MEXC suits a trader who wants the widest possible altcoin list at no trading cost, funds in a stablecoin, and understands that the real price is in the funding and withdrawal legs. For that user the zero-fee policy is a genuine saving rather than a marketing line. Look elsewhere if you want verifiable proof of reserves, a named operator, or a direct fiat rail in your own currency, because none of those could be confirmed here. Anyone planning to hold a balance rather than trade one should weigh that absence of evidence heavily, and compare against venues that publish more at Compare.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- 0% maker and 0% taker on every spot pair, with no volume or holding requirement
- No VIP tier to reach and no exchange token to hold for the headline rate
Cons
- Institutional users, market makers, project teams and API users are excluded
- With trading free, the whole cost of a purchase sits in funding and withdrawal charges

- Crypto Estate Planning: Making Sure Your Coins Aren't Lost With You
Passing on cryptocurrency requires two things that an ordinary will does not provide on its own, a record of what exists and where, and a route by which the person inheriting it can reach the keys, because no court order can recover a seed phrase nobody wrote down.
- Crypto Tax in Australia: CGT, Records, and the ATO
In Australia the Australian Taxation Office treats a crypto asset as a capital gains tax asset, so disposing of it by selling, swapping, or spending it is a CGT event, while tokens you receive from activities such as staking are treated as income when you receive them.

In Canada a crypto disposal produces either a capital gain or business income, and where it is a capital gain the Income Tax Act makes one half of that gain taxable and adds it to your income for the year at your marginal rate.
