About Pepe

What Pepe is

Pepe is a memecoin, an erc 20 token on Ethereum with no product, no team and no stated use beyond the joke it is named after. The project's own site is unusually direct about this: "$PEPE is a meme coin with no intrinsic value or expectation of financial return. There is no formal team or roadmap. the coin is completely useless and for entertainment purposes only" (source: pepe.vip, read September 2026).

The same site publishes the token's total supply as 420,690,000,000,000 and its contract address as 0x6982508145454Ce325dDbE47a25d4ec3d2311933. It also states the terms of the launch: "Launched stealth with no presale, zero taxes, LP burnt and contract renounced."

One more disclosure from the site belongs in any honest description: "$pepe coin has no association with Matt Furie or his creation Pepe the Frog. This token is simply paying homage to a meme we all love and recognize."

For where to buy Pepe from your country or state, see the availability tables on this page and the venues at Exchanges.

How it works

There is very little machinery to describe, and that is the point. Pepe is a standard ERC-20 contract. Balances move when someone sends them. There is no staking module, no governance, no fee switch, no treasury and no upgrade path.

Three of the launch properties the site advertises have specific mechanical meanings, and they are worth separating because they are often quoted together as if they were one thing.

Zero taxes means the contract takes no cut of a transfer. Many memecoin contracts skim a percentage of every buy and sell and route it to a marketing wallet or back into liquidity, which forces a trader to raise slippage tolerance on a decentralized exchange just to get a trade through. Pepe's site addresses this directly in its buying instructions: "We have ZERO taxes so you don't need to worry about buying with a specific slippage, although you may need to use slippage during times of market volatility."

LP tokens burnt refers to the liquidity pool on a decentralized exchange. When someone supplies both sides of a trading pair, they receive lp tokens representing a claim on that pool. Burning those tokens destroys the claim, so nobody can withdraw the pooled liquidity later. That removes one specific failure mode, the rug pull in which a deployer drains the pool. It does not make the price stable and it does not stop anyone who holds tokens from selling them.

Contract ownership renounced means the deployer gave up the privileged address that could call owner-only functions. In a contract that has minting, blacklisting or fee-changing functions, renouncing removes the ability to use them. It also removes the ability to fix anything. There is no admin who can pause the contract, recover a mistake or push an upgrade.

The site's own buying route is the plain decentralized one: install a wallet, hold ETH for gas, go to a decentralized exchange, paste the token address, and swap. Pepe also trades on centralized venues; the availability tables on this page carry that, not this text.

Supply and tokenomics

Pepe publishes a supply figure and the launch properties, and nothing else. There is no allocation table, no vesting schedule and no emission plan on the project's site.

Because there is no published allocation, the only way to know how concentrated holdings are is to read the chain. A block explorer will show the top holders of the contract address above, including exchange wallets that aggregate many customers. Anyone weighing whale concentration should look there rather than at any number quoted in an article.

A fixed supply with no emissions also means the fdv and the market cap converge: there is nothing left to unlock. That removes one common source of supply pressure and leaves price entirely to what people will pay.

History

Pepe launched without a presale, an allocation round or an announced team, which is what "stealth" means in the site's phrasing. The site publishes no launch date, so none is given here. The positioning was explicitly against the dog-themed tokens that dominated the previous memecoin cycle. The site's about text says Pepe "is tired of watching everyone play hot potato with the endless derivative ShibaCumGMElonKishuTurboAssFlokiMoon Inu coins. The Inu's have had their day."

The published roadmap is three lines long and is not a roadmap in any conventional sense: "Phase 1: Meme. Phase 2: Vibe and HODL. Phase 3: Meme Takeover." Taken together with the disclaimer, the site is consistent: it promises nothing and describes no future product.

What changed after launch was reach rather than the contract, which never changed at all and cannot. A renounced, tax-free ERC-20 has no parameters to tune, so every development in Pepe's life has happened around the token rather than inside it.

Risks and what to watch

A renounced contract cuts both ways. It removes the deployer's ability to mint, blacklist or change fees, and it also removes any ability to respond to a problem. If a bug or an integration failure appears, there is no administrator to pause anything and no governance process to authorize a fix.

There is no accountable party. With no formal team, there is nobody to contact about a listing, an integration, a compromised social account or a fraudulent copy. That absence is a design choice the site states plainly, and it changes what recourse looks like compared with a project that has a foundation behind it.

Impersonation is the practical hazard when buying on a decentralized exchange. Anyone can deploy a token that uses the same name and image, and a search by name on a decentralized venue can return a fake. The site publishes the contract address for exactly this reason; check the address you are trading against rather than the ticker, and be alert to address poisoning in your own transaction history.

Concentration is unmeasurable from the project's disclosures. No allocation was ever published, so a reader has to derive the holder distribution from the chain. A small number of large addresses moving at once is a real market risk for any fixed-supply token with no utility to anchor demand.

Finally, volatility in a token with no cash flows, no governance and no roadmap is driven by attention. That is not a criticism of the asset; it is a description of what the price responds to, and it is what the project itself says it is.

Frequently asked questions

What is Pepe's total supply?

420,690,000,000,000 tokens, as published on pepe.vip. There is no emission schedule and no vesting, so the supply does not grow.

Does Pepe charge a tax on transfers?

No. The site states "No Taxes, No Bullshit," and its buying guide notes that no special slippage setting is needed for the tax, though slippage may still be required during volatile markets.

What does "LP burnt and contract renounced" mean?

The liquidity pool tokens were destroyed, so the pooled liquidity cannot be withdrawn by whoever supplied it. The deployer also gave up the owner address, so owner-only functions such as minting or fee changes cannot be called. It also means nobody can fix or pause the contract.

Who runs Pepe?

Nobody, according to the project. Its site states there is no formal team and no roadmap, and that the coin is for entertainment purposes only. It also disclaims any association with Matt Furie, the creator of the Pepe the Frog character.

Guides

  • Self-Custody vs Exchange Custody: How to Decide

Deciding between self-custody and exchange custody means choosing which failure you would rather be exposed to, a company that loses or freezes your assets or a mistake of your own that nobody can undo, and most people resolve it by splitting holdings rather than picking one for everything.

  • How to Verify a Token Contract Address Before You Buy

A token's contract address is its only real identity, so verifying one means getting the address from the project's own official channel, confirming the same address independently from a second source, and checking on a block explorer that the contract is what it claims to be before you trade against it.

  • Choosing Your First Crypto Wallet

Choosing a first wallet comes down to one question, whether a company holds your keys or you do, and the right answer depends on how much you hold, how often you move it, and how confident you are about storing a recovery phrase safely for years.
