About BitTorrent
What BitTorrent is
BTT is the native asset of BitTorrent Chain, a cross-chain network connecting TRON, Ethereum and BNB Chain. The BitTorrent Chain whitepaper, version 2.1 dated June 2026, describes BTTC as "next-generation cross-chain interoperability infrastructure" built on "a three-layer architecture based on a PoS consensus mechanism" with "an independent Delivery Chain relay layer" (source: BitTorrent Chain whitepaper V2.1, June 2026).
BTT does three jobs on that network. Validators stake it to join consensus, cross-chain operations and incentives are paid in it, and it is the gas token for on-chain interactions, contract deployment and data storage on the BTTC Chain. The whitepaper states that "BTT has a fixed issuance and is strictly controlled through on-chain smart contracts."
The project's stated philosophy is "connection instead of custody," meaning it aims to move state between chains through a validator-signed relay rather than through a custodial bridge operator.

How it works
The three layers each do one thing. Root Contracts sit on TRON, Ethereum and BNB Chain and handle asset locking and release, validator governance and staking, and event-log recording. The whitepaper says this layer "natively supports mainstream token standards, including ERC-20, TRC-20, and BEP-20."
The Delivery Chain is the relay in the middle. It listens for events on the source chains, verifies them, and abstracts them into structured state snapshots the whitepaper calls checkpoints. Consensus there is "a Tendermint-powered PoS consensus mechanism," and the threshold is explicit: "only after more than two-thirds of nodes complete signing does a snapshot gain broadcast authority." Each checkpoint carries "event data, state roots, block heights, and validator signature sets," and target chains verify them with Merkle proofs and signature checks executed entirely by on-chain contracts.
The BTTC Chain is the execution layer at the end. It is "fully compatible with the Ethereum EVM, supports Solidity and the full development tool stack, including Remix, Hardhat, and MetaMask," and the whitepaper describes "two-second block times and extremely low gas costs."
Block production runs on a fixed rotation rather than a lottery. The whitepaper gives the structure precisely: "Each span consists of 100 sprints. Each sprint contains 64 blocks. One span produces 6,400 blocks in total," with a sprint lasting about 130 seconds and a full span about 3 hours and 36 minutes. A producer that misses blocks consecutively is replaced automatically.
The full cross-chain path is five steps in the whitepaper's telling: a user locks an asset on the source chain, Delivery Chain nodes detect and verify the lock event, validators sign a checkpoint by BFT multisignature, the checkpoint is submitted to the target chain's contract, and the asset is released or minted once the target chain confirms.
Validator economics are deliberately flat. The whitepaper requires each validator to "stake at least 1 trillion BTT in the TRON mainnet Root contract and bind a unique NFT identity credential," and then applies "a 'one node, one vote' PoS equal-rights mechanism for governance. Regardless of stake size, each validator has the same voting weight." Delegators can pick a validator freely and must observe an unbonding period on exit.
Supply and tokenomics
BTT's headline number changed without its economics changing. The whitepaper records that "The original total supply of BTT was 990,000,000,000. After the BTTC mainnet launched and BTT redenomination was implemented, the old BTT was renamed BTTOLD, and the new BTT was swapped at a 1:1,000 ratio, adjusting the total supply to 990,000,000,000,000." It adds that the redenomination "does not change BTT's market value basis or original allocation ratios."

The release schedule the whitepaper publishes is now historical. The public sale's 6% was "released at once after TGE/public sale completion" on 31 January 2019. The 2% private sale and 9% seed sale both released linearly over 12 months to 31 December 2019. The 19% team allocation and the 20% TRON Foundation allocation both released linearly over 36 months to 31 December 2021.
Staking rewards come in three forms, all distributed by contract. Signature rewards are "shared equally among validators after state signing is completed on the Delivery Chain." Block rewards come from transaction fees during rotating block production. Checkpoint rewards go to validators that sign and upload proof after a checkpoint is verified by the target chain. The whitepaper says total staking rewards are "capped and released gradually each year according to preset ratios," with on-chain adjustment of the release pace under the 2.0 mechanism.
History
BTT's public sale completed on 31 January 2019, and the allocation table above dates from that original issuance framework. The token began as an asset on TRON rather than as the gas token of its own network.
The redenomination was the pivot. When BTTC mainnet launched, the old token became BTTOLD and holders swapped at 1,000 new BTT for each old one, taking total supply from 990 billion to 990 trillion. Nothing about the allocation ratios or the aggregate value changed; the unit got a thousand times smaller.
The whitepaper's own framing of the project's direction is that BTTC's ambition "does not stop at 'building a better cross-chain bridge'" but extends toward "a multichain operating-system control layer that covers state transfer, security authentication, and protocol governance." Version 2.1 adds the validator partnership mechanism, which lets several addresses jointly stake and be treated as one validator node with rewards split automatically by contract, a concession to the fact that the parties with node-operation skill and the parties with a trillion BTT are often not the same.
Risks and what to watch
Validator concentration is a live question despite the equal-vote rule. One node, one vote limits stake-weighted governance capture, but it also means influence is a function of how many validator slots a party can fund at 1 trillion BTT each, and the whitepaper does not publish an active validator count.
The redenomination is a persistent source of confusion. Any price, supply or market-cap figure predating the swap refers to a unit worth 1,000 of the current ones, and old sources rarely say which unit they mean.
Cross-chain movement remains the highest-risk operation in the system, whatever the architecture. The whitepaper documents double-spend and replay protections through unique event identifiers, timestamps and block-height validation, but a relay that mints assets on one chain against locks on another is a design where a verification bug becomes an unbacked supply.
Concentrated initial allocation is visible in the table. The TRON Foundation, the BitTorrent ecosystem fund and the team together account for 58.9% of the original distribution.
