Fees explained
Robinhood Crypto is a broker, not an exchange. On its default route it charges no commission and is paid inside the price you are quoted instead. As of June 15, 2026, for every $100 of notional crypto order volume executed through market maker routing, Robinhood Crypto receives $0.95 from its market maker (source: Robinhood crypto order routing article). That $0.95 is the number to hold against another venue's fee. The zero on the confirmation screen is not the cost.
A second route is priced the conventional way. On exchange routing, an account with $0 to $10,000 of trailing 30-day volume pays 0.95% as a taker and 0.50% as a maker (source: Robinhood Crypto fee schedule). Those are ordinary maker taker fee rates, and they sit alongside the commission-free route rather than replacing it.
| Route | Cost |
|---|---|
| Market maker routing, commission | No commissions |
| Market maker routing, Robinhood's take inside the price | $0.95 per $100 of notional |
| Exchange routing, taker, $0–$10K 30-day volume | 0.95% |
| Exchange routing, maker, $0–$10K 30-day volume | 0.50% |
The practical reading is that a small buy on the default route costs about the same as a taker order on a mid-priced exchange, but arrives without a line item. Because the charge is embedded in the quote rather than shown as a fee, you cannot check it on a receipt. You have to trust the disclosure.

History and ownership
Robinhood was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in the United States (source: Robinhood about page). Crypto is not run by the same entity as the stock brokerage. In the United States the service is provided by Robinhood Crypto, LLC, NMLS ID 1702840, which holds licenses in 33 US jurisdictions listed in its own disclosures document (source: Robinhood Crypto licenses and disclosures PDF).
Outside the United States the brand fronts two other companies. Robinhood UK customers trade crypto inside the Robinhood app, but the service is provided by Bitstamp UK Ltd, an FCA-registered crypto asset exchange provider and custodian wallet provider under firm reference number 978690 (source: Robinhood article on trading crypto on Bitstamp UK). In the European Union, Robinhood Europe, UAB, company code 306377915, is authorized and regulated by the Bank of Lithuania as a financial brokerage firm and a crypto-asset service provider (source: Robinhood EU article about Robinhood Crypto). That single Lithuanian authorisation is what carries the service into Germany, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Ireland, none of which Robinhood names on a country page of its own.
Knowing which entity holds your coins matters more here than at a single-entity venue, because the license, the regulator and the complaint route all differ by region.
Products and markets
The supported list is broad for a broker. Robinhood's crypto availability article covers 44 of the assets RampAtlas tracks, including bitcoin, ethereum, Solana, Cardano, Chainlink, Stellar, Zcash, Dogecoin and a long tail of newer tokens (source: Robinhood crypto availability article). Staking is offered as a separate product, and a ladder order screen exists for placing tiered orders.
State-level exceptions are published in the same places and they are real. A large group of listed coins is marked not available for trading in New York, and USD Coin and Global Dollar are marked not available for trading in Texas (source: Robinhood crypto availability article). North Carolina residents cannot trade through the ladder (source: Robinhood cryptocurrency investing article). Staking is unavailable in California, Maryland, New Jersey and Wisconsin (source: Robinhood staking article). Buying and selling are unaffected in those four states. Check New York or Texas before assuming a coin you want is reachable from where you live.
Security record and custody
Robinhood Crypto holds a New York virtual currency license, number 0000012, and is regulated and licensed to conduct virtual currency business activities and as a money transmitter by the New York State Department of Financial Services (source: Robinhood Crypto licenses and disclosures PDF). It also holds a Louisiana Virtual Currency Business Activity License, number 1702840 (source: same document). Identity verification is mandatory: Robinhood states it complies with a Securities and Exchange Commission customer identification rule under the USA Patriot Act of 2001, which requires it to verify the identity of any person opening an account (source: Robinhood open an account article). Expect full kyc.
Deposits and withdrawals
Funding is priced through Robinhood Connect, and the published figures are ranges rather than rates.
| Payment method | Fee |
|---|---|
| Debit card | 0.0%–1.5% |
| Bank account transfer | 0.0%–1.5% |
| Robinhood buying power | $0 |
Paying from Robinhood buying power, meaning cash already sitting in the account, is the only route published at a flat zero. Robinhood publishes no separate ACH deposit fee schedule for the brokerage account, so what a standard bank transfer into Robinhood costs is not published as a number. Apple Pay and Google Pay are offered through Robinhood Connect partners. Credit cards do not appear in the published payment methods.
On the way out, the sources here cover cash rails and say nothing about moving crypto off the platform. Treat any network fee or withdrawal policy as not published until you confirm it.
Support and usability
Robinhood is an app before it is a trading venue, and that shapes the experience in both directions. The buy screen is fast and the default route asks nothing of you, which is why the embedded $0.95 per $100 matters: the interface is designed so that you never see it. Anyone who wants to see a price and a fee separately should use the exchange-routing ladder instead and accept the 0.95% taker rate as the visible cost.
Support channels, hours and response times are not published on the pages sourced here, so RampAtlas cannot rate them. The availability footnotes are published clearly, which is more than many brokers manage, but they live in support articles rather than on the product page, so a New York or Texas buyer can get some way into a purchase before finding out a coin is off the menu.

Robinhood Crypto suits someone who already banks their spare cash in the app, wants a wide coin list, and is buying to hold a balance rather than to move coins around. The commission-free headline is honest as far as it goes, and the $0.95 per $100 disclosure is more than several rivals publish, but it is still a spread you cannot verify on a receipt. It is a weak fit if you want an audited reserves report, if you live in New York or Texas and want a specific coin, or if the whole point is to end up holding private key control of what you bought. Compare the all-in cost at Compare and check state coverage at United States before opening an account.

Guides
- Crypto Estate Planning: Making Sure Your Coins Aren't Lost With You
Passing on cryptocurrency requires two things that an ordinary will does not provide on its own, a record of what exists and where, and a route by which the person inheriting it can reach the keys, because no court order can recover a seed phrase nobody wrote down.
- Crypto Tax in Australia: CGT, Records, and the ATO
In Australia the Australian Taxation Office treats a crypto asset as a capital gains tax asset, so disposing of it by selling, swapping, or spending it is a CGT event, while tokens you receive from activities such as staking are treated as income when you receive them.
- Crypto Tax in Canada: How the CRA Treats Cryptocurrency
In Canada a crypto disposal produces either a capital gain or business income, and where it is a capital gain the Income Tax Act makes one half of that gain taxable and adds it to your income for the year at your marginal rate.
