Fees explained
The VIP 0 rates below took effect on August 1, 2026 and are current as of September 2026 (source: HashKey Exchange trading fee adjustment notice).
| Item | Rate |
|---|---|
| Maker, from August 1, 2026 | 0.29% |
| Taker, from August 1, 2026 | 0.29% |
| Previous VIP 0 rate, both sides | 0.50% |
| Paying fees in HSK | 0.275% |
| Minimum fee per fully executed order | USD 1.99 |
The catch is the floor. Since July 30, 2025 HashKey has charged a minimum trading fee of USD 1.99, or the equivalent in the fee currency, on each fully executed order (source: HashKey Exchange notice on adjustment of trading fee). Below roughly USD 690 of order value the minimum bites, so a USD 100 buy costs about 2% rather than 0.29%. Partially filled orders and zero-rate orders are exempt.
Fees are charged in the currency you receive on crypto-to-crypto trades and in the quote currency on fiat trades. Withdrawal fees track network conditions and are not fixed.
A cost estimate for a $500 purchase on HashKey Exchange and OSL Exchange appears here once the published fee schedules are verified.
History and ownership
HashKey Exchange is the Hong Kong trading venue of HashKey Holdings Limited, which was founded in 2018 and listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong on December 17, 2025 under stock code 3887 (source: HashKey Holdings 2026 interim results announcement, August 27, 2026). The listing matters for anyone assessing counterparty risk, because a listed parent files audited accounts and discloses results on a fixed schedule.
Those results show a business still running at a loss. For the six months to June 30, 2026 the group reported revenue of HK$342.5 million, up 20.6% year on year, and an adjusted loss of HK$314.8 million, narrower by 21.0% (source: HashKey Holdings 2026 interim results announcement). Platform trading volume was HK$282.2 billion, of which institutional customers accounted for 82.0%. This is an institution-first venue with a retail app attached, not the other way round.
The exchange operates through Hash Blockchain Limited, which the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission licensed as a virtual asset trading platform on November 9, 2022 under central entity reference BPL992 (source: Securities and Futures Commission, list of licensed virtual asset trading platforms). Only fourteen platforms held that licence when RampAtlas checked the list in September 2026, and HashKey was the second ever granted, after OSL.
Products and markets
The asset list is short by design. HashKey Exchange's public market data endpoint returned 38 spot pairs across 28 base assets in September 2026, quoted mostly in US dollars, with five Hong Kong dollar pairs covering Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, Aptos, and IoTeX (source: HashKey Exchange public API, exchange information endpoint). A licensed Hong Kong platform can only list tokens the regulator's regime permits, so a thin list is a feature of the licence rather than a failure of the business.
The wider group sells more than spot trading. Recent announcements cover a tokenised real-world asset business, work on the HKDAP Hong Kong dollar stablecoin with OneDegree and YF Life, an on-chain US government liquidity fund with Franklin Templeton, and a new flagship trading app launched on July 27, 2026 (source: HashKey Group newsroom, August 2026). In July 2026 the group agreed a framework deal to acquire Singapore's Asia Pacific Exchange, which holds Approved Exchange and Approved Clearing House licences.
Security record and custody
Custody sits inside the group, which runs HashKey Custody as one of its named business lines alongside the exchange, HashKey Capital, and HashKey Cloud (source: HashKey Group about page, read September 2026). The more important control is the licence itself. A licensed platform in Hong Kong operates under conduct requirements the Securities and Futures Commission supervises and can enforce, which is the practical difference between a licensed venue and an offshore one: the obligations come from a regulator rather than from a company promise, and breaking them costs the licence.
RampAtlas found no hack, insolvency, or enforcement action against Hash Blockchain Limited in the Securities and Futures Commission's public materials as of September 2026. The company remains on the licensed list, and platforms that lose a licence are moved to a separate published list of platforms required to close.
Understand what the licence does not cover. It does not insure you against the price of what you buy, and it does not extend to the group's overseas venues. HashKey Global, a separate platform, is not the licensed Hong Kong entity, and its market list is different.
Deposits and withdrawals
Fiat funding is built around Hong Kong dollars and US dollars, and the group says it has expanded on and off-ramp channels through banking relationships including J.P. Morgan and DBS (source: HashKey Holdings 2026 interim results announcement). Crypto deposits are the usual on-chain transfers.
Withdrawal costs are not fixed. HashKey prices them against network conditions at the time you withdraw, so the figure you see at the confirmation screen is the figure you pay. That is standard practice and it is honest, but it means you cannot budget a round trip precisely in advance. Check the quote before you send, particularly on congested chains.
Support and usability
The platform is aimed at users who are comfortable with an order book rather than a one-tap buy button, and the USD 1.99 minimum fee reinforces that. If you are placing small, frequent orders, this is the wrong venue, and the arithmetic says so plainly. If you are placing occasional orders of a few thousand dollars, the 0.29% rate is competitive for a licensed venue.
Support runs through the exchange's help centre and account managers for institutional clients. Retail users in Hong Kong get a regulated complaints route, which is worth more than a fast chat response when something goes wrong.

HashKey Exchange fits a Hong Kong resident or an institution that wants a licensed counterparty and trades in size. The Securities and Futures Commission licence, the listed parent, and the audited disclosure give you more to check than almost any offshore venue offers, and the fee schedule is reasonable above a few hundred dollars per order.
Look elsewhere if you buy small amounts regularly, because the USD 1.99 per-order minimum turns a 0.29% fee into something far higher, or if you want a long asset list. Buyers outside Hong Kong should start from Exchanges available in Singapore or Buy Bitcoin, and use Compare to weigh the alternatives.

- Crypto Estate Planning: Making Sure Your Coins Aren't Lost With You
Passing on cryptocurrency requires two things that an ordinary will does not provide on its own, a record of what exists and where, and a route by which the person inheriting it can reach the keys, because no court order can recover a seed phrase nobody wrote down.
- Crypto Tax in Australia: CGT, Records, and the ATO
In Australia the Australian Taxation Office treats a crypto asset as a capital gains tax asset, so disposing of it by selling, swapping, or spending it is a CGT event, while tokens you receive from activities such as staking are treated as income when you receive them.

In Canada a crypto disposal produces either a capital gain or business income, and where it is a capital gain the Income Tax Act makes one half of that gain taxable and adds it to your income for the year at your marginal rate.
