Fees explained
RampAtlas publishes no Bithumb fee figure. As of September 2026 every page on bithumb.com serves the same empty application shell, the fee schedule and terms included, and no other Bithumb property returned a document we could read. Rule 10 of our methodology forbids estimating a rate we have not seen, so the maker fee, the taker fee, any coupon-discounted rate and the won funding charges are all recorded as unverified rather than guessed at.
This page is therefore deliberately short. What follows is only what Bithumb's own public market API returns, which is a real primary source but a narrow one: it reports markets and transfer status, and nothing about price, licensing or rules.
A cost estimate for a $500 purchase on Bithumb and Upbit appears here once the published fee schedules are verified.
Before funding an account here, open the fee page in a browser and read the rate for the order type you intend to use. On a Korean venue the headline rate and the rate after a fee coupon can differ substantially, and neither is quotable from a source an assistant or a search engine can reach.
History and ownership
RampAtlas confirms nothing about Bithumb's ownership or history from a primary source. The corporate site failed to complete a connection from our infrastructure in September 2026, the alternate domain timed out, and there is no server-rendered blog or newsroom to fall back on. The headquarters country and founding year shown in the facts strip above come from the RampAtlas record and carry their own verification date; nothing further is asserted here.
For comparison, the operator of the other large Korean venue publishes half-year financial results and a newsroom. See Upbit for what that disclosure looks like, and treat the absence of an equivalent here as a gap in the record rather than as a finding about the company.
Products and markets
The public market API is the one part of Bithumb that answers questions. As of September 2026 its ticker endpoint returns 479 markets quoted in Korean won, and its asset status endpoint lists 514 assets with their current transfer state (source: Bithumb public API, all-KRW ticker and asset status endpoints).
| Measure | Count |
|---|---|
| Markets quoted in Korean won | 479 |
| Assets on the status endpoint | 514 |
| Assets with deposits open | 450 |
| Assets with withdrawals open | 497 |
A won-denominated list of that size is among the widest domestic selections of any exchange in this directory, and it is the venue's clearest advantage for a Korean resident. The usual caveat applies with force at this count: depth varies enormously across 479 books, so on a small listing the spread and the slippage on a market order will dominate whatever commission turns out to apply. For a first purchase of a large asset see Buy Bitcoin in South Korea.
Security record and custody
RampAtlas states no incident and no enforcement action on this page, and this is not a clean record. It is an unsearched one.
The cex position applies regardless of what the unread documents say. Bithumb holds the private key and your balance is a claim on the operator. Anything you intend to hold rather than trade belongs in self custody, where the seed phrase is yours alone.
Deposits and withdrawals
No won deposit rail, withdrawal fee or bank arrangement is verified here. The one funding-adjacent fact the API does supply is transfer availability, and it is worth acting on: of the 514 assets on the status endpoint, 64 have deposits closed and 17 have withdrawals closed as of September 2026.
Check the status of the specific asset and network before you move anything. A suspended withdrawal on a coin you already hold is the failure mode that matters, and it is visible on the endpoint above before it becomes visible to you. Where transfers are open, the network fee for the network you pick is the cost that is usually underestimated.
Support and usability
RampAtlas could not evaluate either. The notice board, the help articles and the English entry point all return the same empty shell, so the verification tiers, the response commitments and the residency rules went unread. Whether a non-Korean resident can open an account is among the questions this page cannot answer. See South Korea for the country's rules and Compare for venues that publish theirs.

Bithumb offers one of the widest Korean won listings available, and that is the whole of what RampAtlas can currently tell you about it. Every other question this directory exists to answer, what a trade costs, what funding costs, who is licensed to serve you and how customer assets are held, is behind pages that returned nothing we could quote.
That makes this a venue to evaluate in a browser rather than from a comparison table. A Korean resident weighing it against the domestic alternative has a competitor with a published rate and a published operator to compare against at Upbit. This page will be expanded when the underlying documents can be read and sourced.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- 479 markets quoted in Korean won on the exchange's own public market API
- Deposits are open on 450 of the 514 assets the status endpoint lists
Cons
- No fee schedule, terms of service or licence record could be read, so RampAtlas verifies no trading rate, funding rail or residency rule
- Deposits are suspended on 64 listed assets and withdrawals on 17

- Crypto Estate Planning: Making Sure Your Coins Aren't Lost With You
Passing on cryptocurrency requires two things that an ordinary will does not provide on its own, a record of what exists and where, and a route by which the person inheriting it can reach the keys, because no court order can recover a seed phrase nobody wrote down.
- Crypto Tax in Australia: CGT, Records, and the ATO
In Australia the Australian Taxation Office treats a crypto asset as a capital gains tax asset, so disposing of it by selling, swapping, or spending it is a CGT event, while tokens you receive from activities such as staking are treated as income when you receive them.

In Canada a crypto disposal produces either a capital gain or business income, and where it is a capital gain the Income Tax Act makes one half of that gain taxable and adds it to your income for the year at your marginal rate.
